About Northline
A residential heating and cooling company built around the calls nobody wants to make.
Why we work the way we do
Most people meet an HVAC company on the worst day their house has had that year. The furnace has quit in February, or the air conditioning has died in a heat wave, and the decision in front of them involves a lot of money and very little information. Almost everything about how Northline runs comes out of taking that moment seriously.
That means answering the phone. It means carrying the parts that actually fail so a common fault gets fixed today rather than booked for Thursday. And it means being willing to say that a repair is the better answer, even when the larger sale is sitting right there.
What you can expect on a visit
- A diagnosis explained in terms of what the part does, not just its name.
- The cost of the repair before the repair starts, not after.
- An honest read on how much life the equipment has left.
- A tidy work area, and boots off or covered inside the house.
On replacing equipment
A furnace that can be repaired for a fraction of replacement cost, and that has several seasons left in it, should be repaired. We quote replacement when the repair no longer makes financial sense, when a system is unsafe, or when the running cost of an old unit has grown large enough to pay for a new one over a reasonable stretch of time. When we do quote it, we show the arithmetic rather than asking you to take it on faith.
We do not quote a replacement on the same visit as a failed repair unless you ask us to. Being sold a furnace while standing in a cold house is not a decision anyone makes well.
Where we work
Homes in London and the surrounding communities, including Byron, Hyde Park, Masonville, Lambeth, Komoka, Ilderton, Dorchester and St. Thomas. We are a residential company: houses, townhouses and small multi-unit buildings rather than commercial rooftop work.
Seasons, and why booking early matters
The two busiest weeks of our year are the first hard cold snap and the first real heat wave, and both are entirely predictable. A maintenance visit booked in September or April costs less, takes less of your day, and catches most of what would otherwise become an emergency call. It is the least dramatic advice in this trade and the most useful.
Book a seasonal visit
Ahead of the cold, or ahead of the heat. Both are quieter and cheaper than the week everyone else calls.
